The first generation Volvo XC 70 was prefaced in 1998 as an improved variant of the V70 wagon.
First Generation (1998-2000)
The 1st generation Volvo XC70 had sophisticated all-wheel-drive utility, capacious interior, and side airbags. With the help of a turbocharged 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine, these models produced 199 lb-ft of torque and 190 hp of power.
At that time, most of the customers were not familiar with the V70 XC version that came with skid plates.
Second Generation (2001-2007)
The second generation Volvo XC 70 was introduced in 2001. Similar to its V70 companion, this had a sleeker body style and a new design platform that was used by the 1st generation sedan. It was included with a striking cabin layout that was derived from the S60 sedan.
For the first time, the second generation Volvo XC 70 was packed with a navigation system. It was designed with a 2.4-liter engine to develop 210 lb-ft of torque and 197 hp of power.
2003 Facelift
During 2003, the 2.4-liter engine was substituted by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine that could pump out 236 lb-ft of torque and 208 hp, which was much quicker than the previous engine.
Some other features included in 2003 Yaris were 4-zone climate control, a DVD entertainment system along with front headrest-installed TV screens, and flexible rear seats.
Third Generation (2008—Present)
The third generation XC70 was introduced in 2008. The most considerable modification was introduction of T6 model that was designed with a turbocharged 3.0-liter engine.
Technically, the Volvo XC70 falls in the medium size wagon division, though its traditional SUV-like and all-wheel drive features make it a crossover SUVs.
In comparison to the standard V70 wagon, the XC70 is slightly longer; about 2.7 inches. It has rugged styling information that incorporates cladding on the rear and dissimilar front fascias.
Salient Features of Current Generation Volvo XC70 Models
The current generation is offered with an up-level base variant and 3.2 T6 trim and the XC70 has a lot of upscale convenience features; they are
• skid plates,
• alloy wheels,
• dual-zone automatic climate control,
• roof rails,
• an eight-speaker audio system, and
• Bluetooth connectivity.
The T6 included with dual exhaust outlets, a “watch dial” instrument cluster, and bigger wheels, along with important upgrades in interior region like
• navigation system,
• leather upholstery,
• rear-seat entertainment system,
• adaptive bi-xenon headlights, and
• satellite radio as an optional goody.
The base model is designed with a 3.2-liter inline-6 engine that sends out
• 236 pound-feet of torque and
• 235 horsepower of power to all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
This power is theoretical evidence, but when practical performance is considered, it is not that impressive. The T6 model shares the AWD system and 6-speed transmission and includes a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 engine that churns out greater power levels of 281 hp, and 295 lb-ft of torque.
